SUSTAINABLE

PROTECTS LIMITED RESOURCES

CompoClay is composed of natural and abundant materials.  

CompoClay is primarily made up of a mixture of the top five most abundant minerals in the Earth’s crust.  Water, sand grains, sea salt, recycled coal combustion products and non-toxic fibers for reinforcement make up the remainder of CompoClay’s material composition.   Coal combustion products (CCPs) are the materials produced from the combustion of coal for the production of electricity.   The United States alone generates over 100 million tons of CPPs annually. Instead of sending CCPs to the landfills, CompoClay reuses it, incorporating it into its material formulation.  The United States Environmental Protection Agency supports and encourages the recycling of CCPs as it is safe for both human and environmental health, and reduces the demand for quarrying new, virgin resources.

CompoClay provides a sustainable alternative for natural wood. 

CompoClay has the ability to emulate wood, reducing the need to cut down trees in order to manufacture wood products.  Deforestation has many negative environmental effects, including climate change and loss of habitat for millions of species.

LOW CARBON FOOTPRINT

CompoClay does not undergo any energy-intensive treatment during the manufacturing process. 

Conventional materials, specifically polyresin and cement, require a great deal of energy to acquire its raw materials. In addition, manufacturing ceramics requires a high-energy hardening process. CompoClay is able to achieve that same level of physical and aesthetic performance of these conventional materials without the energy-intensive manufacturing process, minimizing energy consumption and carbon dioxide emission.

CLEAN PRODUCT LIFE CYCLE

CompoClay creates minimal environmental impact upon disposal.

Conventional materials, such as engineered wood and wood-plastic composites, require binding agents that release harmful toxins when disposed in landfills. Because CompoClay is made from natural materials, it degrades safely back into its natural state without releasing any toxic substances.

 

SAFE

IMPROVED INDOOR AIR QUALITY

CompoClay is MAS-Certified Green for zero VOC-emission. 

Certain types of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are highly toxic and carcinogenic and are a major cause of indoor air pollution. Formaldehyde, one of the most dangerous VOCs, is commonly found in the adhesives used in products made from engineered wood and solvents used for the production of polyresin. CompoClay can emulate wood and can achieve the same level of details typical of polyresin without compromising indoor air quality, health and safety.

EXCELLENT FIRE RESISTANCE

CompoClay is a Class Zero non-combustible material per BS 476: Part 4 and Part 7 standards.

Conventional materials, such as wood, polyresins and polyurethane, are highly flammable and easily combustible. They also either release toxic gases when burned, or contain toxic fire retardants. In contrast, CompoClay is non-flammable and non-combustible, posing no fire risk, and does not release any harmful fire toxins when burned.

FREE OF CARCINOGENS

CompoClay is free of heavy metals.

Heavy metals, such as mercury, cadmium, arsenic, chromium VI, thallium and lead, are carcinogenic, affecting the central nervous system, skin, bones or teeth.

CompoClay is completely asbestos-free.

Asbestos is a hazardous mineral fiber that is commonly used in the building industry for insulation and as a fire-retardant. Exposure to asbestos increases the risk of lung cancer, mesothelioma cancer and asbestosis.

CompoClay is extremely weather resistant

CompoClay withstands deterioration caused by UV radiation, moisture, freeze-thawing, thermal shock, mold, mildew and termite growth.

HIGH PHYSICAL STRENGTH

CompoClay is as strong as, if not stronger than, traditional materials.

Based on third-party certification, CompoClay as a material is very durable and strong.  Its compressive and impact strengths surpass that of competing materials.

VERSATILE FOR DESIGN

CompoClay has the ability to emulate the look and feel of almost anything from wood and metal to stone and ceramic. 

CompoClay is easily molded for complex shapes and detailed surface definitions.  Weight and density are extremely flexible.  CompoClay offers an array of different finishes, including various wood, stone, metal and ceramic finishes.
